My favorite music videos, rare movies, live chat and general tomfoolery. And every once in a while you might just catch me working on something live in the studio. On occasion we'll be live from different shows, parties, and other messes I've gotten myself into. PLEASE NO INTERVIEWS.. Not even on Sundays. Thanks.
I woke up today with a strong urge to vent about what really bothers me and has done for a while, even though i occasionally shoot down others who express the same exact thought. I want the soul back in hip-hop!! The boom bap. It make me so sad. Justin you were one of my go-to-guys for that!! Whats happening!! Im soo sad.
I know this is not relevant in the slightest, and im also aware this topic has been covered extensively and genuinely responded too with acceptable, reasonable answers. It will always be a topic within hip-hop. And i know one music lover can’t speak for the rest of society or i can’t tell any person what to do…..buuuuutttt DAM I MISS HIP-HOP!!!!! Surely if the majority of people are buying this new surge of hip-hop then it is immensely popular, then it should be classed as “pop”. Theres nothing beating it. But i thought these guys were “hip-hop” producers?? F it. Transformers looks tight
Yeah but music is movin in a certain direction..its a prgresive thing, u cant move backwards. it would be like ppl asking beethoven to compose barock music..or like people expecting stevie wonder to make classical music..each made music that evolved from the same genre, but at a different period of time..if beethoven were alive in stevie wonders time he’d more likely be making soul than classical. so like u might be classifying justs new stuff as ‘pop’ but its just an evolved form of the same genre…in 10 yrs every1 will probably be listenin to stuff at 170+BPM, so producers have to adjust to the changes to remain relevant
But Stevie never made a classical album??! He’s a soul man..his last album (2005) was a soul album! He stuck to what he does best. Always has. Yes that might have evolved from classical, like most genres. But stevie hasn’t changed that much. T-Pain was not featured singing “So What the Fuss”.
And your talking like a 100 years between beethoven and stevie. Stevie was not alive!..so music was bound to evolve in that time line and he’s obviously not going to pick up a dead genre.
No doubt. but music is moving at a faster rate than before. look at the gap between baroque music and classical. its larger than the gap between classical nd romantic. which is bigger than the gap between romantic and 20th century. which is larger than 20th centuary and contemporary. Same with popular music..mainly cuz of technological changes. look how much music has changed in the past 10 years even. to the extent u can pretty much tell a track was released in 2005 compared to 2009 just by the mixing and sounds..so the evolution of the genre no longer takes 50 years.
im sure JB will always wana make soulful stuff..but wats the point of him making the same beat over and over..all sucesffull producers constantly adapt. jb a prime example (his first placement was ‘i like it’ by harlem world, which was shiny suit mase type trak)
Yeah i know. But older genres still stay around. It seems everyone wants to change these days.
Most older artists still sell doing exactly what they did 30 40 years ago. I know some have incorporated new talent, technologies etc. But the sound is still very much the same.
Only in 2008 we had albums from Al Green, Neil Diamond etc even Mendes. Who did have Will.i.am on there but the real treasures where in the middle with that classic mendes sound. They all stuck to a certain sound that they’ve had since the beginning. Hip-hop producers and rappers don’t seem to do that.
It just seems hip-hop is ashamed of being exactly that, Hip-Hop. Be hip-hop!! Thats what u do!! Don’t change.
Maybe im being over dramatic, and we’re going to see Jay-z come back and totally own the game with a true Hip-hop album. Kanye will bring back that CD sound. I know i can trust Mos, Lupe and artists sitting on the shelf will finally get the get and go and jump off.
Teaser looks crazy. Looking forward to the sequel.
As long as the hard beats and hard lyrics stay around (and they are, you just have to look a little harder), I’m good. Fuck what the masses are buying.
“With hip-hop guidelines I state I never liked authority
When sales control stats I place no faith in the majority”
yeah this looks better than the first..but i realllyyy hope they keep the comedy in there too. the first one was pretty funny man
Co-Sign Mic-roh…In my opinion, Just Blaze is one of the most sucesfull producers already…and i know hes just getting started. Thats why i pray i can be apart of the movement…99 percent of producers just come and go, and alot of ‘famous’ producers have their periods then just fade out…Just Blaze can drop hits at any given time..he has never oversaturated and then consequently faded out as many other superproducers have. just let him do him…plus hes works with ppl like fabolous, jayz, ti etc…thats y hes always adaptin, cuz those ppl make Hits.
@ Humph3

…..
I dont agree with what you said about Jay-Z and Kanye. Jay has been experimenting lately with the beats he’s choosing, and his flow. Kanye, well you know about Kanye. I don’t see that Blueprint, CD sound coming back anytime soon…
I love the soulful hip hop too but sadly we are the minority
Btw whos checkin for that DBZ film? I grew up on that show, but i swear the film just looks like its gona be a newer version power rangers. plus y is Goku (the main character) white, when the rest of the cast is asain. :-/
@ Komi…I think they messed up bad when they cast the rest as asians…I know that all the manga I read and anime I watch that the casts are drawn to resemble the western people. So they shoulda just cast all white people lol…but the movie is gonna suck,..Piccolo is the villain…Dragonball sucked compared to Z…we need Vegeta and Super Saiyans.
and at the Hov comments…we cant expect any soul stuff…I think “soul” samples are overrated and have been oversaturated….idk if I wanna move into another age of the synths tho either…ill stay in the minority with DM and Humph3
on the contrary,
these new wave of artists are actually using more and more soulful samples on thir beats.
maybe its just me,
and the shit i listen to.
but charles hamilton, U-N-I, mickey facts, etc,…
are all more into more soulful beats,
just my 2 cents tho..
And as far as that “evolution” convo goes… Its not evolution, its just people want whats popular. That sound right now is popular. Boom bap is still boom bap. Pop music didn’t evolve from boom bap or backpack or grime, its always been around. Soul music is still around as well as classical music. Every Genre and style of music has its own lane. You don’t hear pete rock doin rihanna tracks. Just Blaze gives the artists what they ask for or what they agree with. Each individual changes their sound (or what u hear) as they please. But its not music evolution, its simply just versatility. thats how u stay in this business. I know im late but I had to get that out.
it is evolution. each genre branches off from another. that fact that u claim pop music has always been around strongly weakens ur argument. U really think a track like Swagger like Us would have existed if it wasnt for other genres? Or lollipop? Where do u think the chord progressions come from..and the sounds? who was the first person to ever use auto-tune? it certainly wasnt a rapper…
Musical expressions lead to genres being created. Its the mixin of genres that leads to new sounds being created. The sounds come and go in phases. Each one builds of the next, and every now and then a new genre is created. Whether u like it or not, hiphop music u hear 2day has been built of the hiphop music in the past. Therefore y wuld u complain that just blaze isnt making the old stuf? it doesnt make sense for one to try and move in an anti parralel direction when music is prgressin in the opposite direction
by ur theory theres no such thing as a “genre” because ur evolution is based on borrowing. Each genre evolves within itself. think of each genre as a family. Just because my family comes and borrows sugar from ur family doesn’t equal evolution. Hip hop was always based on borrowing. There has always been different formulas to hip hop, some which incorporated popular styles. Thats not evolution thats just a different style of hip hop. Hip hop isn’t the evolution of soul or jazz or any of the other genres it borrowed from. My “argument” that pop music has always been around still stands very strong. Pop music isn’t a genre its just whatever form of music gets the most attention. Right now Rap music is “pop music”. The popular thing in rap now is to borrow from old styles of “pop Music” such as chord progression and synths.Make sure you know the difference between hip hop and rap though. Go back and read my first paragraph, I never complained about what Just does. I actually just explained it. Hip Hop is moving in the same direction its always been, theres no backwards progression. You may let the media dictate to you whats what, but theres still plenty of men and women staying their course with the culture. B4 Soulja boy there was Vanilla ice. ::sigh:: young’ns tryinuh school me on my own culture. Congrats to Jay Electronica And Erykah Btw.
”by ur theory theres no such thing as a “genre” because ur evolution is based on borrowing.”
no. the genre evolves by encorporting techniques from other genres. hiphop started off as a simple sampled loops over boom bap drums..
from wikipedia:
”The 1980s saw intense diversification of hip hop which DEVELOPED INTO A MORE COMPLEX FORM. AS TECHNOLOGY EVOLVED SO DID THE PRACTICE OF LOOPING BREAK INTO BREAKBEATS; the emergence of samplers and sequencers allowed the beats to be manipulated with GREATER PRECISION and granularity and recombined in MORE COMPLEX new ways than was possible with vinyl alone.”
i dont see what ur arguing about…clearly hiphop has taken things from over genres. eg. the snares from rock..or the now popular BPM of +100 from dance..it didnt start off like that. i took years…hence its grown as a genre itself. alot of ur points just confirm what i said..the only reason im even replyin 2 this is cuz i hate it when ppl critisize my beats for ‘not being soulful’ or ‘real hiphop’..
”Just because my family comes and borrows sugar from ur family doesn’t equal evolution”
?
if u started off with an empty fridge..then went to the supermarket and bought a bunch of food from different sections..ur fridge becomes fuller. the food accumulates..ur food collection has grown from what u originally started from. as time goes on, some food becomes stale. so u throw it out and go back to the supermarket and buy some more food. ur adaptin to changes in the conditions…= the evolution. u evolve to surve in the conditions..if u kept eatin the stale meat, u would die. its exactly the same with the music industry and hiphop. if u keep doin the old stuff, the genre will die out (see: all the movements of music that occured thru the 80s, but never made it out of that decade). so u have to adapt and evolve, to make use of the new techonollgy, synthesizers etc to remain relevant. its got nothin to do with ‘how well u know ur culture’. its simple economics. supply + demand.
thanks for the compliments komi…I’m Conscious music from the matrix, Im not new.but yeah I already made the supply and demand statement in the first paragraph… really… go back and read it. I said each genre evolves within itself, by becoming more complex, and developing techniques… not by borrowing (as a response to ur wikipedia search). Hip Hop doesn’t count, because it was built on borrowing, so its not evolution its just different styles… I’m Sure Just blaze has plenty of soul records just waiting, just because the mainstream doesn’t hear them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. So hes not necessarily evolution what hes doing, because he may have been had pop inspired beats in his arsenal. and when its time to bring a certain selection out, whatever the public is diggin’ is what will go up for sale. Hip hop evolved within’ itself, but each specific style. if u said pit bull evolved from uncle luke, I’d give u that. But lollipop ain’t evolve from Rakim. That shit ain’t even evolve from Rap. Its a chemical change.
and ur beats are dope too… and synthesizers are NOT new… theyve been usin synths since the 60′s or maybe even b4. gotta listen to some older music and not just sample it kid.
hey 2Gutta, that was so original and creative and non-juvenile of you…it was a devastating to blow to my self esteem and persona and i probably can’t go on…that was some ether level type stuff 2Gutta…i only wonder why you didn’t ridicule me having bad breath as well…then it woulda been the perfect try….really 2Gutta…no sarcasm involved….i respect you
this is a good discussion, but in the end, its just’s decision to do what he wants, and i dont really think anything we say will sway him.
its like telling a heart surgeon how to preform surgery. They are professionally trained to do surgery, and i dont think they would listen to the average untrained person.
@ Mix-Roh…I understand but I dont think anyone was telling just what to do..I think humph3 “wants” JB to do more soulful joints but at the end of the day ur right…u cant tell him how to do his job since he’s been doing it so well for so long …good discussion indeed and Komi and Antmanwonder both have valid points
i know this is stupid but how do u get ur beats from the MPC to the comp?…I tried using logic so I can track it but no luck..any of u guys know wut to do?
use the audio outputs on the mpc and plugged them into the back of the protools interface (if u have one). its pretty much it, u should be able to record ur mpc through protools… or get a Y converter for ur audio cables and plug it into ur pc directly in the line-in.
im going to admit…i didnt read everything EVERYONE said^^ cause it seems, unlike the majority of ppl here, im constantly busy!! No offence!
Don’t get me wrong im a HUGE new age fan. CH, Micky factz, LOVE kid cudi. i know some of them don’t use soul samples and are NOT boom bap. but their NEW! they can be what they want, i wouldnt necessarily categorize all of them as HIP-HOP anyway. if your rapping, your not necessarily making hip-hop. they may have evolved from different genres, but the point im trying to make is artists we know and love, tht at one point were HIP-HOP artists are changing beyond recognition. i dont like it!!
i love electro! im actually turning to it, mainly indie electro indie pop due to being bored of hip-hop. hip-hop artists and producers are tryin to be something their not.
and no offence to just, cause he can do what he wants!! hes making money and relatively good music. would i call it ground breaking?? edgy? raw? no i wouldnt. but not everything is. it immensely popular. hip-hop used to be about borrowin other ppls records and turin them into somethin 100 times as beautiful, all which could be achieved in a basement. now u need a multi million dollar studio and a full production team. i know just may very well have soulful records coming! im just sayin i miss them.
shout out to ne1 still doin their things!! and keepin my soul so uplifted. Dilla changed my life.
i think i just need another reflection eternal album then ill hush
peace
Seems ppl are catering for popular culture fans, followers. Not music fans.
People may want to sell. But they aren’t. Thats the biggest problem. People following suit ain’t gettin’ nowhere. They may get little internet popularity but that doesn’t equal to sales. Soulja Boy doesn’t sell records. they are just popular and thats it. Its time for real artists to emerge that are making songs with some value and applicable content.
”now u need a multi million dollar studio and a full production team”
made me wana throw up a lil. no offense, but thats just weak. u dont need shit. give me a pencil some paper and a voice box and ill make a hit. same with any other decent producer uve heard of. just look @ number one by jamie fox and lil wayne (produced by JUST BLAZE)..u need a million dollar stu and production team for that? wtf?! u couldnt make that in ur basement??? what about a millie?..
if u got the hit maker state of mind, u can easily make a hit beat on fruity loops.
If anything, most the beats u hear on the radio are being made on fruity loops or a similiar program. whos the hottest ‘new’ producer now? Drumma Boy? all his beats r made on a computer. ive heard people recreate dr.dre beats to the tee using fruity loops…
not tryna be cocky, (just for the sake of the argument), but i use fruity loop stock sounds and dont even have a MIDI keyboard, and ive managed to catch the eye of some of ur fav producers/artists, havent i?
@Con – tryed adding u but my computer froze. i put the link under my name.
@komi your lucky enough to be a very talented musician. we both know full well the majority of these producers need a to hire session musicians etc to produce anything worthwhile, when their producing “pop”. Oh & a millie does not class as worthwhile. it just seem seems like their trying to be something their not. they were once doing two channel mixes out of their mpcs..and we LOVED them for it. Im just sad that sound is going. i was the BIGGEST fan.
”they were once doing two channel mixes out of their mpcs”
and they were once riding horses..but they made cars for a reason.
u can appreciate the old but u should try not to hate the new for tryna be innovative. and i know what ur about to say ‘but THIS isnt innovative”. nd thats where the argument cant be won or lost. its a matter of opinion…right?
nd thnks for the compliment. i realy appreciate it.
but i still think, talent or no talent, its actually easier to make hot beats now than ever before. before it used to be like 5 hot producers. now u have 500 producers with equally hot beats tryna get on projects. thats why u get albums were each track is produced by a different producer (rather than before, where usually only 3 ppl would handle the project). not saying thats good or bad, in many ways its better only to have a select few doing the production to maintain the sound, but it (in my opinion) is evidence that more and more people have the ability to produce hot beats
”the majority of these producers need a to hire session musicians etc to produce anything worthwhile, when their producing “pop”. ”
ehh i guess u have a point. but most of those producers were already established before they hired these people. hence they managed to hire them. i think its more laziness/wanting to find new sounds than lack of ability.
good discussion.
the only thing i will add is that if u look hard enough you can find those soul beats. you may have to go underground but they are there. even freeway’s month of madness had some really nice soulful beats
@komi ok man good discussion. don’t get me wrong, i will touch commercial music. i DO play it. i play it at home. LOUD. in a club i WILL dance to it happily. i just don’t want it from my favourite hip-hop producers thats all. I know everyones moving on etc and fair play. I definitely would have sold out..i would have been the first chasing the mcdonalds and pepsi deals
@DM “even freeway’s month of madness had some really nice soulful beats” yes i have found music i can get into. Freeway bein one of many. It will always be the same. Now i know why my parents when on about music in their day!! Im 20!! but in my day i peeled off the wrapping from Train of thought, blueprint etc etc etc put it gently into my COMPACT DISC player. And my soul flew.
Funny thing is. Ive become a HUGE electro/ electro rock fan, mainly thanks to these producers and exploring what ppl were so hyped about. But over produced electro/ commercial/pop/hip-hop?? No thanks. You may have it. I will not be departing with my 99cents. Make something from the heart?? Something hip-hop. Raw. REAL lyrics. Not just another blog rapper..but something epic??? You then may take numerous 99 cents from me
Also funny thing is..im a HUGE kanye fan. And he seems to be the person whos “evolved” most. Anyway…music hunting here i go…wish me luck
i was agruin bout similar stuff 2 this with 88 Keys before..also he strongly dissapproves of sampling via mp3 rather than vinyl…*sigh* u can carry around a crate of 80 dusty vinyls if u want to, but im using the USB im my pocket.
lmao @ Komi…exactly…im not gonna carry crates around or let that shit take place in my apartment….ediggin in 2009 > crate diggin in 2009…by a landslide
To each is own. I would prefer records. but if I hear something and need it right then and there, might not even be a song, Im gonna go for it the quickest way I can get it. But the weird way I e-dig is… I know some crate diggers that sample songs off the vinyl and send em to me… Thats something that should have purists scratchin’ their heads (pause)…
surely a better sound comes from vinyl?? and u actually learn about records? about the artwork..the ACTUAL albums? i def see the benefits. Every1 does. Its def an art.
but EVERY1 has e-dug!! (im currently copyrighting tht term)
@ Conscious…yeah that has me scratching my head…ur in the diggin middle ground with that right there…lol…and thanks again, im able to record my joints to the Macbook now
about the whole crate diggin thing… what is the difference between me ripping it from the vinyl, or sampling a 320k/bit mp3 that was ripped from vinyl? none
back to the soul discussion…
u know whats funny… in 5 years you will crave that music you heard in 2009. classic case of not realizing what u have til its gone.
but i’m in the same boat. nothin gets me like a nice soul beat.
The difference is a respect for the people ur sampling. Having a knowledge of the music ur taking and flippin’. But that could be argued by just researching the artist on the internet. I mean the consumer doesn’t care. But Purist always find something to complain about. I don’t think anybody really has the right to complain but the people whos music ur using. but thats my opinion. Jazz people complained about soul people, soul people complained about disco. all of em complained about sampling when it first started. its just a tradition. Just like hardware based producers complain about software based producers. Dumb part is, its all software, ur pc just happens to be the hardware. The mpc is a machine too. A machine that operates off software. So theres always gonna be someone to complain. A sequencer is a sequencer… u use the same drums and can play the same melodies, with the same instruments. Sample the same songs. it all boils down to talent and quality. sorry for the rant. and no problem Bee, glad it worked out for u homie.
truth…personally..I love listening to music and I listen to soul music on the regular just cause…soul music and heavy metal…two places where im influenced…I noticed that samples tend to pop up when ur not really diggin…because when im diggin ill come across 20 albums and have 1 hot beat…when im just chillin and listening to tunes i get like 4 to 5 joints for every 30 songs…its weird…
@ant…
i see what you’re saying. i am really into the 70′s soul artists. i try not to just take the hot sample and trash the album. i like to listen to the entire album and if i really like it i’ll check out for of their work, even if not all can be sampled. i’d hope others would do the same but that’s not going to happen
u guys missed it! Dre came in and played the entire Detox cd track by track. Then Em came in and he recorded 4 songs over Just’s beats. He was spittin. Then Jay-Z showed up in a clown suit with DJ Premier and Nas. Jay recorded the entire BP3 cd in one session over all Just and Premo beats. Nas was just chillin smoking crack in the corner. it was pretty dope. It lasted about 10 hours. Too bad you guys missed it
^^^I don’t really get involved but if the beats had more complex harmonies then it would make the rapper’s voice sound different ( effect)…Ron Carter said this 2…so yea…my 2 cents have been put in….
hey that beat i good Komi, you did that shit? its in japhia life’s myspace now and it has more than 800 plays, thats good man! congrats! to be honest i dont know who that guy is but its great you made a beat for someone on a major label
I feel you Ecks…I’ll probably get overlooked again. Just ain’t been on here in the longest. But it was a good look for him to have 3 beats come back to back on the All-Star game introductions. Hope he gets that money so some lucky soul will get a nice gift.
woow they placed 3 of his beats back to back?! congratsss jb! which 3 were they? hmmm.. lemme guess – pump it up, flipside and show me what u got? or maybe dynamite instead of show me what u got
At a time when hip hop is gradually moving back to the lyrics … Its
story must be foretold thru the voice of a lyrical visionary. The debut
project from Cambatta titled “The Visionary” (Mixtape) features :
Skyzoo, Torae, Reks, Nickelus F, and many more notable artists. Also
not to forget, production from Scram Jones, Dame Grease, DJ Nice, and
a load of original material fresh material from up and coming producers
on the independent scene. “The Visionary” will surely not disappoint as
it brings back the essence of a true hip hop project with an artist
whose lyrical capability surpasses expectations.

Yo!……..Just-10 Blaze …..after weeks of “meets & greets” I finally got the connect on those Blu-Rays & I will soon upload them to Megashares, the hold up has been “freeing up space” on my cpu I wasn’t aware that Blu-Rays were like 4-6 GBs.
However! I still need to know where to send????
I sent a trial e-mail to Just Blaze @ ***********com & and they sent that ish back saying invalid e-mail. So hit me up with a “wish-list” @ ecksmanolo@gmail or ecksmanolo@yahoo.
its very cool. u do somethin…then ges wat, u write about it. Not only that, but if ur thinkin somethin, u can twit it as well. Can life get any better, i submit that it cannot
the fact it was made fun of profusely by its number one user, is pretty cool if u ask myself, n lets just say jimmy fallon is bout to takeover before a new post is even made so theres that. overall if there was one word to describe the current situation of things it may be scrumtrelescent and/or delectable.
i got a question….if this blog was raided tomorrow n disapeared from the internet would anyone notice…..i mean….if a tree falls in the forrest does it make a noise
the runner of this blog looks to be busy, no time for blogs, esp wen u got a twitter account and all, the fact he’s brushing his teeth currently is obviously more important that posting on one’s blog
@ Nas……ay good ear for beats man….i mean u started off slow with illmatic but u rly picked it up after that. I especially enjoy the masterpiece that is We’re Not Alone

One time I was doin this thing in San Francisco and was all gay ppl in the audience, so i figured id do stuff about gay people so they could relate to it, so I go to this gay pride parade. I saw in it there was old men and old ladies that had these signs like “we are proud of our gay son” you know…and so I was sayin…thats an odd thing to be proud of…cause its no an achievement….its not like you work ur whole life to be gay ya know or nething like that..I had a hard time believing that these fifty, sixty-year-old men are actually bragging, you know, at work. Like there ”Hey, uh, Bill, you know, uh, my kid, oh my God, we’re proud of him- Johnny. He, uh, uh, graduated from Harvard, you know, first in his class. You know what I mean? I-I and now he’s articling over at a law firm and uh-Oh yeah, he loves c*ck!…This kid…He can’t get enough c*ck, in his mouth, his ass. This kid’s always c*ck! …I got a- I got a picture of the boy here suckin’ another man’s c*ck. I want to show it to ya.”
I like an escalator because an escalator can never break, it can only become stairs. There would never be an escalator temporarily out of order sign, only an escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience.

There is one all-time greatest moment in the history of sports,
and it happened in the 1932 World Series.
The story goes that in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs,
a full count and the tying run on base,
Babe Ruth raised his arm and pointed to the center field bleachers.
No one believed it, because nobody had ever done it before.
But The Babe was calling his shot.
On the next pitch, the Great Bambino hit a towering home run.
And even although he’d been a hero before that,
that’s pretty much how he became a legend.
Thirty years later, a kid named Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez…
became a neighborhood legend.
It was in the greatest summer of my life…
when he taught me to play baseball,
and he became my best friend.
And he got me out of the biggest pickle I’d ever be in.
He ordered Mr. Mertle to turn his backyard into a fortress…
and chain up The Beast and put him under the house…
where he could never get out to eat children and stuff.
– That’s where he’s been for years. – [ Growling ]
And that’s where he’ll be for the rest of his life.
Because Mr. Mertle asked the cops how long…
he had to keep The Beast chained up like a slave,
they said until forever.

01 Feb 2009 - 12:48
You don’t know what you’ve got till its gone…*sigh*. LET GO!!
01 Feb 2009 - 13:41
01 Feb 2009 - 13:42
NICE!!! I wonder who is getting revenge? Did Megatron get out of the ocean?
01 Feb 2009 - 14:02
But Stevie never made a classical album??! He’s a soul man..his last album (2005) was a soul album! He stuck to what he does best. Always has. Yes that might have evolved from classical, like most genres. But stevie hasn’t changed that much. T-Pain was not featured singing “So What the Fuss”.
And your talking like a 100 years between beethoven and stevie. Stevie was not alive!..so music was bound to evolve in that time line and he’s obviously not going to pick up a dead genre.
I just like soul hip-hop. It moves me
01 Feb 2009 - 14:19
No doubt. but music is moving at a faster rate than before. look at the gap between baroque music and classical. its larger than the gap between classical nd romantic. which is bigger than the gap between romantic and 20th century. which is larger than 20th centuary and contemporary. Same with popular music..mainly cuz of technological changes. look how much music has changed in the past 10 years even. to the extent u can pretty much tell a track was released in 2005 compared to 2009 just by the mixing and sounds..so the evolution of the genre no longer takes 50 years.
01 Feb 2009 - 14:25
im sure JB will always wana make soulful stuff..but wats the point of him making the same beat over and over..all sucesffull producers constantly adapt. jb a prime example (his first placement was ‘i like it’ by harlem world, which was shiny suit mase type trak)
01 Feb 2009 - 14:32
theres proly soulful stuf on saigons album
01 Feb 2009 - 14:45
01 Feb 2009 - 14:51
Don’t get me wrong. There are hidden gems everywhere. They just don’t seem to come from my favorite producers.
01 Feb 2009 - 15:36
ill just wait for jay-e i guess
01 Feb 2009 - 15:52
this movie will be amazing.
01 Feb 2009 - 16:06
that trailer looked better then the first transformers for me.
01 Feb 2009 - 18:31
woah, this movie looks crazy
01 Feb 2009 - 18:40
Teaser looks crazy. Looking forward to the sequel.
As long as the hard beats and hard lyrics stay around (and they are, you just have to look a little harder), I’m good. Fuck what the masses are buying.
“With hip-hop guidelines I state I never liked authority
When sales control stats I place no faith in the majority”
01 Feb 2009 - 18:59
I like it
I like it
I really really like it
01 Feb 2009 - 19:16
1. Hoolllyyy sheeeit that trailer looks ridiculous…I cant wait ..
2. I also agree with the fact that we need more soulful music ..not just in hip-hop…..
01 Feb 2009 - 19:20
Looks crazy, can’t wait for it.
01 Feb 2009 - 19:34
movie looks crazy,
n i feel that just blaze is the producer, he knows what hes doin, might as well let him do him, the formula been workin so far.
01 Feb 2009 - 20:30
yeah this looks better than the first..but i realllyyy hope they keep the comedy in there too. the first one was pretty funny man
Co-Sign Mic-roh…In my opinion, Just Blaze is one of the most sucesfull producers already…and i know hes just getting started.
01 Feb 2009 - 20:32
@ Humph3
“Maybe im being over dramatic, and we’re going to see Jay-z come back and totally own the game with a true Hip-hop album. Kanye will bring back that CD sound. I know i can trust Mos, Lupe and artists sitting on the shelf will finally get the get and go and jump off.”
01 Feb 2009 - 20:33
Btw whos checkin for that DBZ film? I grew up on that show, but i swear the film just looks like its gona be a newer version power rangers. plus y is Goku (the main character) white, when the rest of the cast is asain. :-/
01 Feb 2009 - 20:33
P.S. Cant see anything. Paramount said hammer time on that video
01 Feb 2009 - 20:40
Would have been nice if I could have seen it. Probably will be a commercial during the Superbowl.
01 Feb 2009 - 20:59
LOL@ DM Cant see this
01 Feb 2009 - 21:15
This shit better look better than that GI Joe preview…
PS I heard Jay is going “worldly” with his next album. So I wouldnt be looking for that real hip hop shit…
01 Feb 2009 - 22:31
Sold!
01 Feb 2009 - 23:05
Power Rangers >
02 Feb 2009 - 0:34
Ok, he fixed it…looks crazy
02 Feb 2009 - 4:02
02 Feb 2009 - 4:03
on the contrary,
these new wave of artists are actually using more and more soulful samples on thir beats.
maybe its just me,
and the shit i listen to.
but charles hamilton, U-N-I, mickey facts, etc,…
are all more into more soulful beats,
just my 2 cents tho..
02 Feb 2009 - 4:35
I just did a track wit U-N-I… and didn’t even know about it. I ain’t dig it.
02 Feb 2009 - 4:45
02 Feb 2009 - 6:01
hope it isnt gay like saigon the don
02 Feb 2009 - 6:02
std is probably a lil 13 year old fagot u dont know shit bout production kill urself
02 Feb 2009 - 6:57
^^^smh…..* wonders what happened to moderating the comments*…..
02 Feb 2009 - 6:57
cosign Antmanwonder….versatility
02 Feb 2009 - 8:39
it is evolution. each genre branches off from another. that fact that u claim pop music has always been around strongly weakens ur argument. U really think a track like Swagger like Us would have existed if it wasnt for other genres? Or lollipop? Where do u think the chord progressions come from..and the sounds? who was the first person to ever use auto-tune? it certainly wasnt a rapper…
02 Feb 2009 - 8:46
Musical expressions lead to genres being created. Its the mixin of genres that leads to new sounds being created. The sounds come and go in phases. Each one builds of the next, and every now and then a new genre is created. Whether u like it or not, hiphop music u hear 2day has been built of the hiphop music in the past. Therefore y wuld u complain that just blaze isnt making the old stuf? it doesnt make sense for one to try and move in an anti parralel direction when music is prgressin in the opposite direction
02 Feb 2009 - 11:59
by ur theory theres no such thing as a “genre” because ur evolution is based on borrowing.
02 Feb 2009 - 13:25
02 Feb 2009 - 13:25
btw ur beats r fiyah
02 Feb 2009 - 13:28
the mathmatics remix is hottt..great job
02 Feb 2009 - 13:35
02 Feb 2009 - 17:25
thanks for the compliments komi…I’m Conscious music from the matrix, Im not new.but yeah I already made the supply and demand statement in the first paragraph… really… go back and read it.
02 Feb 2009 - 17:26
evolving* what hes doing.
02 Feb 2009 - 17:40
The “Man” has took down the video….
02 Feb 2009 - 19:40
hey 2Gutta, that was so original and creative and non-juvenile of you…it was a devastating to blow to my self esteem and persona and i probably can’t go on…that was some ether level type stuff 2Gutta…i only wonder why you didn’t ridicule me having bad breath as well…then it woulda been the perfect try….really 2Gutta…no sarcasm involved….i respect you
02 Feb 2009 - 21:16
this is a good discussion, but in the end, its just’s decision to do what he wants, and i dont really think anything we say will sway him.
its like telling a heart surgeon how to preform surgery. They are professionally trained to do surgery, and i dont think they would listen to the average untrained person.
03 Feb 2009 - 2:29
@ Mix-Roh…I understand but I dont think anyone was telling just what to do..I think humph3 “wants” JB to do more soulful joints but at the end of the day ur right…u cant tell him how to do his job since he’s been doing it so well for so long …good discussion indeed and Komi and Antmanwonder both have valid points
03 Feb 2009 - 4:26
yessir
03 Feb 2009 - 11:08
oh okay..wats good Con. i thought ur beats style sounded familiar
03 Feb 2009 - 12:03
ain’t nuffin young’n. add me on myspace cuz I forgot how to get back to ur page.
04 Feb 2009 - 1:52
i know this is stupid but how do u get ur beats from the MPC to the comp?…I tried using logic so I can track it but no luck..any of u guys know wut to do?
04 Feb 2009 - 1:52
the MPC 2000XL that is
04 Feb 2009 - 2:33
Beewirks go back to FL.
04 Feb 2009 - 2:41
LOL @ Kid Beats…Im thinking about it man….this shit is def annoying
04 Feb 2009 - 4:54
use the audio outputs on the mpc and plugged them into the back of the protools interface (if u have one). its pretty much it, u should be able to record ur mpc through protools… or get a Y converter for ur audio cables and plug it into ur pc directly in the line-in.
04 Feb 2009 - 6:00
^^^…damn Antman…just saw ur myspace PM…and now this…good looks..I look like an idiot.
04 Feb 2009 - 14:37
im going to admit…i didnt read everything EVERYONE said^^ cause it seems, unlike the majority of ppl here, im constantly busy!!
04 Feb 2009 - 15:52
“Seems ppl are catering for popular culture fans, followers. Not music fans.”
Because at the end of the day, people want to sell.
04 Feb 2009 - 17:39
People may want to sell. But they aren’t. Thats the biggest problem. People following suit ain’t gettin’ nowhere. They may get little internet popularity but that doesn’t equal to sales. Soulja Boy doesn’t sell records. they are just popular and thats it. Its time for real artists to emerge that are making songs with some value and applicable content.
04 Feb 2009 - 17:48
@antmanwonder “Its time for real artists to emerge that are making songs with some value and applicable content.”
My man
04 Feb 2009 - 18:33
04 Feb 2009 - 18:33
@antmanwonder “Its time for real artists to emerge that are making songs with some value and applicable content.”
tru say
04 Feb 2009 - 19:35
@komi your lucky enough to be a very talented musician. we both know full well the majority of these producers need a to hire session musicians etc to produce anything worthwhile, when their producing “pop”. Oh & a millie does not class as worthwhile. it just seem seems like their trying to be something their not. they were once doing two channel mixes out of their mpcs..and we LOVED them for it. Im just sad that sound is going. i was the BIGGEST fan.
04 Feb 2009 - 19:35
LET GO!
04 Feb 2009 - 19:50
”they were once doing two channel mixes out of their mpcs”
and they were once riding horses..but they made cars for a reason.
u can appreciate the old but u should try not to hate the new for tryna be innovative. and i know what ur about to say ‘but THIS isnt innovative”. nd thats where the argument cant be won or lost. its a matter of opinion…right?
”Im just sad that sound is going.”
Fair enough
04 Feb 2009 - 19:55
nd thnks for the compliment. i realy appreciate it.
but i still think, talent or no talent, its actually easier to make hot beats now than ever before. before it used to be like 5 hot producers. now u have 500 producers with equally hot beats tryna get on projects. thats why u get albums were each track is produced by a different producer (rather than before, where usually only 3 ppl would handle the project). not saying thats good or bad, in many ways its better only to have a select few doing the production to maintain the sound, but it (in my opinion) is evidence that more and more people have the ability to produce hot beats
”the majority of these producers need a to hire session musicians etc to produce anything worthwhile, when their producing “pop”. ”
ehh i guess u have a point. but most of those producers were already established before they hired these people. hence they managed to hire them. i think its more laziness/wanting to find new sounds than lack of ability.
okay i need to get of this blackberry,
04 Feb 2009 - 20:08
good discussion.
the only thing i will add is that if u look hard enough you can find those soul beats. you may have to go underground but they are there. even freeway’s month of madness had some really nice soulful beats
04 Feb 2009 - 21:44
04 Feb 2009 - 21:52
lol cool
i was agruin bout similar stuff 2 this with 88 Keys before..also he strongly dissapproves of sampling via mp3 rather than vinyl…*sigh* u can carry around a crate of 80 dusty vinyls if u want to, but im using the USB im my pocket.
04 Feb 2009 - 22:34
lmao @ Komi…exactly…im not gonna carry crates around or let that shit take place in my apartment….ediggin in 2009 > crate diggin in 2009…by a landslide
04 Feb 2009 - 23:32
To each is own. I would prefer records. but if I hear something and need it right then and there, might not even be a song, Im gonna go for it the quickest way I can get it. But the weird way I e-dig is… I know some crate diggers that sample songs off the vinyl and send em to me… Thats something that should have purists scratchin’ their heads (pause)…
05 Feb 2009 - 0:23
surely a better sound comes from vinyl?? and u actually learn about records? about the artwork..the ACTUAL albums? i def see the benefits. Every1 does. Its def an art.
but EVERY1 has e-dug!! (im currently copyrighting tht term)
05 Feb 2009 - 0:33
@ Conscious…yeah that has me scratching my head…ur in the diggin middle ground with that right there…lol…and thanks again, im able to record my joints to the Macbook now
05 Feb 2009 - 3:53
about the whole crate diggin thing… what is the difference between me ripping it from the vinyl, or sampling a 320k/bit mp3 that was ripped from vinyl? none
back to the soul discussion…
u know whats funny… in 5 years you will crave that music you heard in 2009. classic case of not realizing what u have til its gone.
but i’m in the same boat. nothin gets me like a nice soul beat.
05 Feb 2009 - 4:33
05 Feb 2009 - 4:51
truth…personally..I love listening to music and I listen to soul music on the regular just cause…soul music and heavy metal…two places where im influenced…I noticed that samples tend to pop up when ur not really diggin…because when im diggin ill come across 20 albums and have 1 hot beat…when im just chillin and listening to tunes i get like 4 to 5 joints for every 30 songs…its weird…
05 Feb 2009 - 8:03
@ant…
i see what you’re saying. i am really into the 70′s soul artists. i try not to just take the hot sample and trash the album. i like to listen to the entire album and if i really like it i’ll check out for of their work, even if not all can be sampled. i’d hope others would do the same but that’s not going to happen
05 Feb 2009 - 16:51
i heard about last night and im pretty damn furious i was sleepin
05 Feb 2009 - 17:30
@STD, Dr. Dre has a deep purple glow around him….it’s his aura…
Similar to the one Charlie Murphy spoke about in regards to Rick James..
The darker the glow, the closer you are to God, hence Rick’s being orange…
So yeah, you missed it…

06 Feb 2009 - 0:13
Word on FP is that Dr. Dre was on the stream…
06 Feb 2009 - 0:14
Detox…
Dr. Dre…
Just Blaze…
Can it get any better?
I believe in this Detox myth once again!
06 Feb 2009 - 0:19
u guys missed it! Too bad you guys missed it
06 Feb 2009 - 0:24
lmfao @ DM…exactly what happened
06 Feb 2009 - 0:53
cant believe i missed last night….fucking kidding me..and lol at DM’s behind the music story
06 Feb 2009 - 0:53

Anyone heard the new Jay Electronica ft New Royales – Candy Man. Played on benji b show yday??????
09 Feb 2009 - 15:46
anyone else think hip-hop should be when theres things missing? in a track? certain elements??
Listening to percee p and my mind is filling in the track. Stuff that isnt there. horns..strings..drums..the lot. The bass is delayed. it should fall where i’m expecting it. but it doesnt. it comes later. B.I.T.C.H!!!! I LOVE that. It knocks u down..then POW!!! (©Step Bros)..it picks u right up.
Its fuckin with me..and..i love it. Making me head nod so aggressively!
10 Feb 2009 - 1:45
^^^I don’t really get involved but if the beats had more complex harmonies then it would make the rapper’s voice sound different ( effect)…Ron Carter said this 2…so yea…my 2 cents have been put in….
10 Feb 2009 - 3:18
my bad, i didnt saw my precedent post, Just, can you erase the last one…

Needless to say……I am salty!
P.S. One of Just’s studio peers pointed out that there was a “box full” of “those” shirts in a closet…to no avail.
….Goes & plays “When They Remember” by Freeway produced by BINK!….
16 Feb 2009 - 22:13
I feel you Ecks…I’ll probably get overlooked again. Just ain’t been on here in the longest. But it was a good look for him to have 3 beats come back to back on the All-Star game introductions. Hope he gets that money so some lucky soul will get a nice gift.

(Remove spaces)

01 Mar 2009 - 16:33

02 Mar 2009 - 22:37
when did twitter become the most popular tihng on the internet anyway
03 Mar 2009 - 4:46
this blog=the epipheny of excitement
03 Mar 2009 - 4:52
it rly is the epitome of wat a blog can be
03 Mar 2009 - 4:56
ne comments
03 Mar 2009 - 4:57
the amount of posts, and quality of them, is unparalled n unmatched in stature
03 Mar 2009 - 5:04
i love twitta.
03 Mar 2009 - 5:05
someone here must rly love twtta, idk who or nething, but the use of twitter more than this blog is ironic to say the least
03 Mar 2009 - 5:08
its very cool. u do somethin…then ges wat, u write about it. Not only that, but if ur thinkin somethin, u can twit it as well. Can life get any better, i submit that it cannot
03 Mar 2009 - 5:12
the fact it was made fun of profusely by its number one user, is pretty cool if u ask myself, n lets just say jimmy fallon is bout to takeover before a new post is even made so theres that. overall if there was one word to describe the current situation of things it may be scrumtrelescent and/or delectable.
03 Mar 2009 - 5:17
“you aint no tpain, u aint even red 5ive”
03 Mar 2009 - 5:19
i wudnt expect anything less from the runner of this blog
03 Mar 2009 - 5:23
i got a question….if this blog was raided tomorrow n disapeared from the internet would anyone notice…..i mean….if a tree falls in the forrest does it make a noise
03 Mar 2009 - 5:25
the runner of this blog looks to be busy, no time for blogs, esp wen u got a twitter account and all, the fact he’s brushing his teeth currently is obviously more important that posting on one’s blog
03 Mar 2009 - 5:31
Common’s blog = Godfather 1. Kanye’s blog = Godfather 2. Twitta Boy’s blog < Godfather 3.

There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There’s no knowing where we’re rowing
Or which way the river’s flowing
Is it raining, is it snowing
Is a hurricane a–blowing
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell a–glowing
Is the grisly reaper mowing
Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they’re certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing
