TMTD-TV My favorite music videos, rare movies, live chat and general tomfoolery. And every once in a while you might just catch me working on something live in the studio. On occasion we'll be live from different shows, parties, and other messes I've gotten myself into. PLEASE NO INTERVIEWS.. Not even on Sundays. Thanks.

An alternative to TMTD-TV, What you'll find here is really more random stuff that I come across wherever I am, captured by the trusty (albeit with terrible battery life) Nokia N95. Very Very Random.

  11. i was totally oblivious to the fact that Just produced “live your life” till about 1 month ago. Being that it was a “pop” record, i didnt pay too much attention to it but nevertheless it is still a great record. Props for putting that together….

    Yeah do the hook yourself Just.

    I’ve been bumping “Believe It” heavy and thinking that “Live Your Life” should have been a Red 5ive feature as well.

    LOL imagine Just Blaze in the video with shades and a fitted singing high-pitched on the The-Dream tip. But seriously that’d be cool to see.

    Nope, I’m openly wishing it was to Jay. Although if it’s not him I prolly won’t mind at all.

    Damn right JB. Dont sample any numa numa type shit either. Get that pub paper!

    ___________

    I got my pub paper for the TI record… and will sample whatever i see fit.
    But thanks for posting..

    This makes me think tho.

    First off All i sampled was yodeling.. The rest of the song is 100% original.

    But also.. Really since when did it matter what u sampled.. last i checked as long as the song was good it didnt matter… And if you think that song isn’t a good record, I can show you a few million people that disagree.

    I hear ppl saying.. why dont u sample that gangsta sh*t..

    last i checked there werent any artists in the 70’s who were making “that gangsta sh*t”.

    Imagine curtis mayfield or Issac Hayes in he studio like NAW! YALL PLAYIN IT ALL WRONG!!! WE NEED TO MAKE SOME GANGSTA SHIT!!!!!

    WE made gangsta sh*t out of what THEY composed.. which was usually some sort of soul rock funk jazz or r&b…

    I’d think (and i think most people do) appreciate that I made something hot and credible out of something not-so-hot and “corny”.. Does that not require a talent that many people DON’T have? If it didn’t we’d all be making hit records left and right.

    So.. what’s the problem again?

    P.S. Up Your Butt Jobu..

    *watches the bat fly

  32. “i bet every1 is secretly wishin that phone call was to jay”

    i dont want to hear jay on live your life type songs. i want some dynasty intro jay!

    when did sampling become so wrong? sampled beats are usually the best ones. many people think they are hearing an original composition when its actually a sample

    “no idea’s original”

  33. Ecks MANOLO says;
    22 Dec 2008 - 10:38

    Didn’t take much talent for one Dr. Dre to turn Bernard Wright record into “G’z & Hustlaz” but more less have the ear to identify with dark chords…

  34. You know what Just? Let me give you a clear consumer view of that record. When I first popped in that Tip..and i went to the track i started to laugh when i heard blaring out of my speakers ‘myahee myahaa’ but when i heard the low tone trumpets and rihanna’s pretty voice i forgot i was laughing 10 seconds ago…then the beat drops…lol…all of a sudden ‘myahee myahaa’ sounds really good! It sounds like it actually is supposed to be there. Then when the song is almost finished, the ‘myahee’ comes back in but off melody or whatever making it sound super duper fresh…

    I say all that to say, hey, you’re right, you actually can make something obscure and kinda funny sounding into gold. I knew that was possible when Dilla made ‘Lightworks’. thats my shit. By the way, while we are on Dilla…he is genius. Or very lucky….probably genius. I say luck because putting some of the samples together he’s done is amazing. That is all.

    Having said that, what do you think of the blackberry storm so far Just…lotta bugs in it man.

  35. hmmm... says;
    22 Dec 2008 - 16:09

    Ooooo I hope it comes out before T.I. does his bid…

    …and if you’re tired of sampling, you must have never enjoyed hip-hop from the beginning…I mean really…it takes just as much creativity to use samples as an instrument to create something great as it does to not use samples…

  36. 2Gutta says;
    22 Dec 2008 - 20:39

    So.. what’s the problem again?

    ^ u know wats the fuckin problem? U NOT MAKIN ANY MORE FUCKIN VIDEOS DATS THE FUCKIN PROBLEM.

    and For The record That Sample Rocks…that was one of those Genius Moments..and you know what the say about those its always on the border line

  39. lol @ hokube

    on a more serious note
    i dont understand this hate towards blaze sampling the ozone track (it comes mainly from other producers). firstly whos to say whats corny??? in my opinion, its cornier to sample a 70s track; which every hiphop producer has been doing since the 1990s, than to flip a song from a whole different genre, and turn it into a hiphop banger..
    ppl are like ohh its not ‘hard’ cuz it has a fun theme, but show me one part of the song where ti or just blaze or rih say ‘this is a hard track for all the e-gangsters out there’..its clearlyy a party track……….so how can u complain about yodelling?! its like complaining that a opera song doesnt have enough curse worrds. its not like it was a diss record or anything
    .
    furthermoree, blaze didnt just loop the track..wat u gota apprecaite is that he took the vocal sample and created a new chord progression underneath it. if u listen to the original ozone trak it has a completely different chord progression..so blaze took the original and made somethin completely new from it….

    that being said the only way u can make amends for ur blatent hatred towards arabs (by not signing me) is by hopping on the arab money remix prt 4. the verse must be autotuneless too.

  40. nb - when i said sample a track from a whole diff genre, i meant in terms of country.
    its more original to sample yodeling and do the rest urself than to sample horns/strings which u culd have composed urself if u had the talent

  41. trickledown says;
    23 Dec 2008 - 2:24

    Next hit–sample the pianos from Kate Bush’s “Blow Away (For Bill)”

  42. Conor says;
    23 Dec 2008 - 3:16

    I think the people of America can agree that Mr. Blaze crafted a monster of it , creativly and catchily(word?).

    ..that being said I can only hope this new jam samples that whistling rooster from Disney’s animated Robin Hood movie. I love that flick, especially how Little John is a giant bear…but I digress..

    On an unrelated note I was wondering how you felt Just about creating the ultimate High School warm up song with the Second Coming. Since I’ve been working at sporting events it’s what I hear in every mix. Girls, guys, hockey, basketball, football, soccer, it’s uncanny. It’s a definite step above the Final Countdow (sorry Europe). …but anyway… kudos for that

  43. Looking forward to hearing the new heat my dude

  44. the only reason why people r buggin about Live Your Life is cause we’re used to tracks like Kingdom Come and Why You Hate The Game. If Danjahandz, Polow da Don, or those norwegian guys called Stargate had made the beat no one would be saying anything. I thikn the track gives more props to Just cause he shows he can be versatile.

    (btw, Just, I thikn ur best beat ever is Kingdom Come, hands down)

  45. Kid Beats says;
    23 Dec 2008 - 6:29

    I need a Red 5ive solo album.

  46. yo just, your composition has been on point with these last few records put out. im enjoying it. i dont get why once a producer samples, thats automatically his get up from then on out. just blaze is a producer, not a sample producer lol. people are so quick to automatically classify people in one category and hate when they switch up. in all honesty im enjoying it. keep it up.

    ps. if you woulda left out the yodeling at the begining, would you have had too get clearance from ozone still? its like the horns at the begining of OHBOY right? when cam sent it straight to the radio and then rose royce got paid instead of just having some brass players to come in and interpolate it? just curious.

  47. yea his composition is on fireee. canei is lacing the chords 2..

    and i think they woulda had to get clearance cuz the melody on the hook sung by rihana is the same melody to the yodeling…but the thing is, if there was no yodeling, i dont think the first part of the hook where rih is like ‘your gona bee…etc’ woulda existed, cuz it woulda been random, not many listeners would have picked up on the fact that it came from the ozone track. so clearannce woulda been needed (i think)

  50. No one can front that they werent bumping “Live your Life”…either u was bmping it in ur whip or ya girl MADE u bump that shit…overall that shit was lava…truthfully, people are always going to be mad at something. You can’t please everyone, hence live your life haha…most of us that are making beats are wack..face it…we just following wut has been done already. i’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know shit about making beats but I do make em lol…all I know is that the more Just makes music, the more things i can add to my style to later bust his ass. (10 years lol)..nah all jokes aside..we can def learn from the making of a beat…whether its original or sampled…and plus aint no hot sampled songs been out lately…I’m ready for that Maino join Just!

    na son best just beat is between What we do and U don’t know….Dear summer still sends chills down my spine too.

  52. “No one can front that they werent bumping “Live your Life””
    i wasn’t. not saying it was a bad record, but its not my type of music

    “in my opinion, its cornier to sample a 70s track”
    so u think hip hop is pretty corny then. jay-z must be the corniest rapper of them all

    “its like complaining that a opera song doesnt have enough curse worrds. its not like it was a diss record or anything”
    no it’s nothing like that. that was a terrible comparison.

    “btw, Just, I thikn ur best beat ever is Kingdom Come, hands down”
    wow! bold statement. kingdom come was sick, dont get me wrong. but better than Breathe, Welcome to NYC, 534, any BP beat, U Don’t Know Remix, PSA, etc? I could go on and on….

    just is my favorite producer, but sometimes i roll my eyes at these comments people are leaving. i know its just’s blog and everything but lets not go overboard

  53. @ DM…in reference to the “its corny to sample a 70s track” u should really take a look at the musical direction hip hop is going to…wut I deduce from that Just statement is that niggas ain’t original anymore and everyone is rushing to slap together a “soul” sample and think they’ve arrived. U gotta come harder than that shit for me. He by no way was implying that Jay-Z and all the classic shit he put out was corny because that would be stupid…he helped create the Legend that is Hov. Hip hop is corny nigga…unless some real classic shit drop im yawnin all day..I aint even know Just did the Live ur life beat until like two weeks after I bumped it to death in my car…and THEN I went right back to it just to listen and appreciate…I mean if u can let blog comments get to u so bad that u ROLL UR EYES (are u female?)…u shouldnt be postin

  54. Ecks MANOLO says;

    Obviously the “Obvious” was ignored in this thread….Just B. if you thinking about a new T.I record you must be finished with the other…
    Soooo….what’s the verdict on the Maino record???

  55. Just-
    Forget Tip, he’s ok. How bout another Jada collab. The people need another It’s Time I See You…that shhhh is fiyaaaaa

  56. @beewirks
    i was just making a point
    i dont see why everyone has to be so picky about their music. if its hot, its hot. period. i dont care if u sample a 70’s track or play something from a $5 casio keyboard. people in general like all different types of music. like someone said above u cant please everyone. blog comments don’t get to me, ever. aren’t we here to discuss the music?

  57. and i do agree that a lot of these new producers find a some 70’s sample, get a little 2 bar loop going and think they have made the dopest shit ever. nah

  58. TheSonningSensor says;

  59. the ozone sample is corny….rihanna is corny too….what’s next a tay zonday sample….average homeboy….i deed that, i’m da best mayne?…..just you are better than that, come on!

  60. i forgot, Just did u sing “breathe” and “oh” on the fab joint and mix it to sound like a sample? Cos the sample has quiet vocals on it i think.

  62. just, they want somethin they can pump out of their speakers whilst cruising the mean streets of the interweb. not some of that corny ish.

    Why’s everyone looking down on looping samples?
    Some of my personal favorite Just Blaze productions are loops with drums on them. Example: Allure Remix

    Forgive me if I’m wrong but I thought that beat was basically a loop for the verse and a loop for the hook. There’s a lot more I could name.

    [sarcasm] So I guess looping is wack if you’re not JB or Pete Rock lol. [/sarcasm]
